US Marines Donate Relief Goods to Bicol Calamity Victims
Legaspi
City -- Nine (9) of the WCG Bicol local congregations were recipients of the
relief operation conducted by the U.S. 3rd Marine Expeditionary Brigade on
January 22 at Legaspi City. The effort was an expression of the thrust,
“Working Together: Sharing goodwill with the people of the Philippines.”
According
to Ptr. Greg Glova, the C-130 planeload of relief goods (they called “pasalubong”)
personally donated by US marines, service members and their families in Okinawa,
Japan were divided among 4 selected beneficiaries -- the community (c/o the
Provincial Government), the Catholic Church, some evangelical churches and
the Worldwide Church of God. WCG was favored to be a recipient through the
acquaintance of Cebu Pastor Jimmy Boone with ex-US Marine and Missionary Robert
Murphy. Pastor Greg Glova coordinated and received in behalf of our local
churches boxes of used clothing and groceries which were later distributed to
our congregations in Baao, Tabaco, Cotmon, Legaspi, Donsol/Sorsogon, Aroroy,
Bulawan, San Rafael and Magallanes.
Some of our Cotmon, Legaspi and Tabaco brethren together with hundreds of other
selected recipients also received bags of groceries and T-shirt at the Legaspi
Domestic Airport during the relief distribution. --Myra Leslie J. Narido
New Area Superintendent for Northern Luzon
Baguio
City --- Arlan Aquino, 33, is the new Area Superintendent (AS) for Northern
Luzon. The good and warm news broke gently into the consciousness of the local
congregation here at a time when the cold season was giving way to the first
days of a promising and vibrant summer ahead.
Dr. John Tinoyan, Assistant Pastor, who gave the announcement last Sunday, said that in addition to his new assignment, Pastor Arlan will continue to serve as the senior pastor of the local congregation here.
Pastor Arlan replaced Pastor Jeremias Ortiguero who retired last year but continued to serve as AS for Northern Luzon until recently. Pastor J. Ortiguero will continue as Senior Pastor in Cadumanian, Agoo, La Union. –Robert L. Domoguen
