Mission Coordinating Head Elected to PMA Board

Dr. Rey Taniajura, head of the Missions Coordinating Team of WCG Philippines, was elected for a two-year term as member of the Board of Directors of the Philippine Missions Association (PMA) last February 18. The election of the members of the board took place at the Victory Christian Fellowship Center at Robinson’s Pioneer in Mandaluyong City during the association’s annual general assembly meeting. Bishop Efraim Tendero, national director of the Philippine Council of Evangelical Churches (PCEC), is chairman of the board of PMA.

At the meeting, Dr. Taniajura briefly shared the mission ministry of WCG Philippines. Five other representatives of member organizations of PMA made their ministry presentations. Dr. Taniajura was also asked to be panelist in a forum on “Issues Confronting Overseas Foreign Workers” held at the Capitol City Baptist Church in Quezon City. The forum is part of week-long activities of PMA to celebrate its 25th founding anniversary. The theme for the celebration is “From Mission Field to Mission Force”. Pastor Bob Lopez is the current national director of PMA.

Pre-Employment Orientation Seminars Held in the cities of Cabanatuan and Calamba

Two more Pre-Employment Orientation seminars were held for members of the Worldwide Church of God congregations in the cities of Cabanatuan and Calamba on February 17. In Cabanatuan City some 22 members led by their senior pastor Tony Gaspar and his wife Aida participated in the seminar. Eleven other members of the WCG outreach group in Calamba City gathered at Riverview Resort to hear facilitators Ardel Magararu, Reuel Avila and Pol Makahiya discuss PEOS topics. The seminar included video presentations entitled “Handa Ka Na Ba?” and “Challenges of Working Abroad”.

The pastoral team members of the Cabanatuan City plan to conduct PEOS in schools and colleges in the city as part of their outreach ministry, particularly among high school graduating students, in the coming months.

PEOS Conducted in Calamba City

Three outreaches in Calamba City (Barangay Canlubang, Prinza and Makiling) combined resources to hold a Pre-Employment Orientation Seminar (PEOS) last February 17, 2008 at the Riverview Resort and Conference Center in this city. Held after the monthly combined worship service and lunch of the three outreaches, the PEOS drew eleven participants -- three members from Calamba, one member from Los Banos, and seven from the community.

Ardel Magararu (Manila South) and Reuel Avila (Sta. Rosa) conducted the course, while Pol Makahiya (San

Pablo) expounded on Jeremiah 29:11 ("For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future ...") to provide encouragement to the participants, many of whom are seeking a better life by working abroad.

PEOS uses materials from the Philippine Overseas Employment Administration (POEA) and is conducted by WCG under a special arrangement with POEA. --Reuel Avila
